About Music in the Ice

In fall 2016, SUNY Geneseo faculty member Glenn McClure will travel to Antarctica to work with scientists at the Ross Ice Shelf. The scientists use subsonic sound waves to measure the viability of the ice shelf.

mcclure_400Glenn will use a mathematical conversion process to transport subsonic sound waves into the hearing range, therefore generating musical source material that embodies the messages within the ice. He’ll connect to K-12 schools remotely from the ice to support arts-integrated learning modules.

Glenn and his students will use this website to collaborate and to share their work with the public.
